NEW ORLEANS - U.S. Attorney Jim Letten said two investigations are currently ongoing to determine if others in his office were involved in making improper online comments on a local news web site.

The comments came as he addressed the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation Luncheon. They are some of the first public comments Letten has made since a second suit was filed against his former first assistant, Jan Mann, accusing her of improperly posting information.

Mann was demoted. Former prosecutor Sal Perricone resigned after similar accusations were made against him.

Letten said the accusations against Mann and Perricone will not keep his office from pursuing criminal wrongdoing or doing its job in current investigations.

Letten says his office now has new senior managers in place who are seasoned prosecutors with impeccable credentials.

At the event, former Chairman of the N.O. Crime Coalition Greg Rusovich said the local business community would fight any effort to replace Letten with a political appointee.
