NEW ORLEANS - A man was shot several times in the driveway of a residence in the St. Roch area on Wednesday night, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Around 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a man down and gun fire in the 1600 block of Painters Street.

Upon arrival, they discovered that a 30-year-old man had been shot several times and was lying unresponsive on the ground. He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The man had a loaded pistol in his waistband and was in possession of a large amount of narcotics, according to the NOPD. Investigators believe it was a drug deal turned deadly.

The NOPD is working to determine a suspect and a motive.
