SLIDELL, La. - A St. Tammany Parish judge ordered a mental health evaluation to see if a Slidell man is competent enough to stand trial for the beating deaths of his parents.
On Thursday, John Willis, 25, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity to two counts of first degree murder.
Willis bludgeoned his parents, Lewis and Helen Willis, with a hammer in November after an argument about household chores, authorities said.
It's not known if the St. Tammany District Attorney's Office will seek the death penalty in the case.
