NEW ORLEANS – A woman who was reported missing was the victim of a fatal shooting in New Orleans East, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Tanyana Elliot, 33, was last seen Monday by her son, according to police, around 11 p.m. in the 14000 block of Beekman Road.
Wednesday around 7 p.m., Elliot was found inside a pickup truck in 12100 block of the North I-10 Service Road at the Wind Run apartment complex. She had been shot multiple times.
The victim was initially ruled as unclassified by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office since Elliot's body was severely decomposed.
According to police, the truck was in the parking lot of the apartment complex for several days. Authorities are trying to determine who owns the truck and any possible connection to Elliot.
An autopsy on Friday confirmed her death was due to the gunshot wounds.
