NEW ORLEANS -- Police say one man has died and five men were injured in a shooting Tuesday in New Orleans East.

The shooting happened after 7:30 p.m. in the 7000 block of Yorktown Drive.

NOPD 7th District Commander Michael Harrison said the details of the shooting are "sketchy," and there's no word of a possible suspect or motive.

"We don't know why it started. What we do know is that we are investigating it. Our detectives are on the scene. Our crime lab is outside. The residents right now are processing the scene. We don't know if it's gang affiliation as of now. We don't know all the particulars, but we're looking into it," Harrison said.

A weapon was recovered at the scene. None of the victims have been identified.

The violent outburst comes after a bloody 24 hours in New Orleans. Not long after the Yorktown Drive shooting, a man was shot in his car on N. Galvez. Since Monday night, at least six other people have been wounded in five seperate shootings.

If you know anything that can help investigators in any of these cases, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
