NEW ORLEANS – Police say a teenage murder victim was able to identify his killer to 911 operators before he died Friday in Gentilly and they have now obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.
Saturday night, New Orleans police announced they are searching for Marquis Matthews, 17, in connection with the shooting death of Marc Canty III, 18.
Canty was found shot to death in the 2100 block of Selma St. Friday afternoon just after 4 p.m.
He was on the phone with 911 operators after being shot and was able to give them the identity of Matthews as he was on the phone, being chased on foot before he died, police said.
Witnesses also provided a physical description of Matthews, police said.
Matthews had no adult arrest record but should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police are seeking him for second degree murder charges.
