NEW ORLEANS -- A 3-year-old girl is among the victims of a triple shooting Tuesday night in Gert Town.

It happened just after 7 p.m. in the 1300 block of S. Salcedo Street in Gert Town.

Police say at least two young men walked up to a group of people and fired shots.

Three people were shot, including a 3-year-old girl who was struck in the back.

A 16-year-old boy was struck in the stomach. Both he and the 3-year-old are were critical condition and undergoing surgery Tuesday evening. A 15-year-old boy was hit in the hip is said to be stable.

By Wednesday afternoon, all of the victims were upgraded to stable condition, according to NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot.

NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said 6th District detectives have done good work so far and some witnesses have cooperated, but more need to come forward to help solve this heinous crime.

"Bottom line here, the people of New Orleans always stand up and say babies are off limits and we're going to talk to the police and we're going to tell the police what we know," Serpas said. "And Commander Bardy and his team are going to bring these people to the prosecutor, and we're going to get some people convicted."

Police say the suspects fled in a white 2008 Nissan Murano four-door with a sun roof.
