NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a United Cab driver in New Orleans East last month.
Rodney Thornton, 30, was booked with the second-degree murder of 44-year-old Ali Husnain. Husnain was found slumped over his steering wheel and shot in the back of the head July 9 in the 6000 block of Downman Road.
NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden said surveillance video from where Thornton was picked up helped to solve the case. She said witnesses were able to identify Thornton as the man hailing the cab.
Thornton was already in prison on a burglary charge.
“The investigation that went into making this arrest was tremendous. I want to commend our homicide division, which continues to work long hours to find breaks in these senseless crimes,” said Superintendent Ronal Serpas. “I also want to thank the people of New Orleans for again coming to their police department to tell us what they know about crimes like this. When we continue to work together, we make this city safer for everyone.”
