NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police are searching for two men who attacked a man on S. Claiborne in a failed armed robbery attempt Sunday, and they have asked for the public's help finding a person of interest in the case.
It happened at 10:15 a.m. in the 8700 block of S. Claiborne Avenue.
Police say two men approached the victim as he was locking up his bicycle. One of the men grabbed the victim by his collar and got into a physical altercation with him. The victim said the man placed his hand under his shirt to give the impression he had a weapon, according to police. The victim said the man kept asking him for his keys.
During the altercation, a second man approached the victim from behind and sprayed "an unknown type of aerosol" on the back of his neck, police say. He then began to punch the victim.
Both of the men fled the scene on Eagle Street.
The victim said the man who first approached him was black, light skinned, had a heavy build with tattoos on both arms and a short hairstyle with a beard. He was wearing a grey shirt with a hood and dark pants.
The second man was black and was wearing a dark shirt with dark-colored pants. He had a light-colored hat, light-colored gloves and he was carrying a dark duffel bag.
The NOPD released a still image of a person of interest wanted for questioning in the case. He is not currently considered a suspect. You can see his picture above.
