NEW ORLEANS -- The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office has suspended a deputy suspected of drunk driving.
Corey Amacker was in an official OPSO vehicle when he was arrested after a traffic accident near Washington Avenue and Earhart Boulevard on Saturday.
He faces charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless operation of a vehicle.
“Public safety is the highest priority of the Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Marlin Gusman. “It is unacceptable when it comes to drinking and driving, regardless of whether it involves citizens or Sheriff’s Office employees.”
Amacker will be suspended without pay until an internal investigation is completed.
