NEW ORLEANS -- Two people are in custody on some of the highest bonds ever set in Orleans Parish Criminal Court.

They're facing multiple charges of sexually abusing kids.

An Orleans Parish grand jury indicted 55-year-old Dale Benjamin Sr. and a 33-year-old woman with multiple counts of aggravated rape, indecent behavior with a juvenile and cruelty to a juvenile.

The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office says the crimes took place in the 400 block of Harmony Street between 2008 and January of this year.

Benjamin is being held on a bond of $7.4 million, and the woman on a $7.5 million bond.

The district attorney’s office says there's good reason for both.

“Each defendant is facing seven counts of aggravated rape. A conviction on just one of those counts carries an automatic life sentence,” said Christopher Bowman, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

The office says the victims are under the age of 13.
