BELLE CHASSE, La. - A woman has been arrested on charges that she stole more than $10,000 from her employer over a couple of months time by taking smaller increments of money from bags meant for cash deposits.
Tara M. Choate, 41, was arrested and booked into Belle Chasse lockup on a charge of theft over $1,500.
According to Sheriff Lonnie Greco, the owner of the victimized business, located in the 9200 block of Highway 23, reported an internal theft of cash.
During the investigation, Greco said Choate, who had been working at the business for about 9 weeks, was identified as a suspect.
Greco said that during questioning, Choate confessed to taking cash from bags that were sent to the office for deposit. Greco said she was unaware as to how much she had taken, but said she blamed the theft on an addiction to pain medication.
