NEW ORLEANS -- Police are still asking for tips from the public to help solve the murder of 11-year-old Arabian Gayles, who died after being shot in the Carrollton area.
Investigators said they've recovered the vehicle sought in connection with Gayles' murder. They made the announcment at a Crimestoppers press conference, to detail an increase in the reward leading to an arrest.
Detectives working on the murder investigation said they're looking for three gunmen. They believe the shooting was the result of a random robbery.
Two donations to Crimestoppers have allowed the organization to increase the reward to $12,500.
On Sept. 2, Gayles was one of three shot at the home in the 1400 block of General Ogden Street.
Gayles and another 11-year-old girl were sleeping in the living room of the house when bullets ripped through the front door. Arabian was on the couch, and the other girl was on a mattress on the floor. A bullet hit Arabian in the head. She died later at the hospital.
A 38-year-old man also survived a gunshot wound to the back while walking outside.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
