NEW ORLEANS - A 17-year-old is under arrest after police say he wounded two people leaving a high school basketball game in Algiers Tuesday night.

Fourth District officers believe 17-year-old Alvin Alvarez shot another 17-year-old male and injured a 17-year-old female as they were leaving the game at about 9:20 last night in the 1200 block of L. B. Landry Avenue near L. B. Landry High School.

The male victim was shot in the leg, while the female victim suffered powder burns to her face and eyes as a result of being in close proximity to the shooting.

Alvarez was taken to Central Lock Up and booked with Aggravated Battery by Shooting and Negligent Injury. He will also be booked with Carrying a Firearm at a School Sponsored Function in a Firearm-Free Zone.

Detectives believe there was a second perpetrator involved in the shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact the Fourth District at (504)658-6040, or to call CrimeStoppers at (504)822-1111.
