NEW ORLEANS – Police have released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted for a murder in the Bayou St. John area.

The man is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in the 500 block of N. Gayoso Street Tuesday.

The suspect is described by police as a Black male, 25-32 years old, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 260 pounds and with a scraggly, unkempt beard. The suspect was wearing a blue and white horizontal striped shirt and dark colored shorts.

The victim, an unidentified African American man in his 20s, was shot around 3 p.m. According to NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot, the man was shot in the head at the location. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to police, the victim was seen talking with the suspect just before the shooting. After shooting the victim, the suspect was seen going through the victim’s pockets and taking items from the mortally wounded man.

The suspect was seen fleeing toward Toulouse Street, according to police.
