NEW ORLEANS – The 22-year-old man accused of striking and killing a 6-year-old boy who was trying to get to a school bus admitted to being involved in the crash and then confessed to fleeing the scene, according to the police report.
Arthur Toledano was arrested at his home in the 1600 block of Charlton Drive after police found the car suspected to be involved in the incident at his home.
Around 7 a.m. Monday, Shaud Wilson was crossing the street near Paris Avenue and Lafreniere Street with his sister and the pair was struck by a car. Shaud Wilson was killed. His sister Shanaya had several injuries, none of them considered life-threatening.
The police report states that officers knocked on the door of Toledano's home shortly after noon Monday and that he exited the home and admitted he had been involved in a crash.
Police took Toledano to the detective bureau where the report said he confessed to the crime.
He was booked for manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, hit and run and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Toledano was in jail. His bail was set at $275,000.
