PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. – Deputies are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect that stole a purse and was caught on security cameras attempting to use the victim’s credit card, according to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the suspect stole a purse that was sitting on the front seat of an unlocked vehicle in the 8900 block of Highway 23 in Belle Chasse, the PPSO said.
Shortly after the burglary, the suspect used one of the stolen credit cards to purchase gasoline from a convenience store in the 2800 block of Belle Chasse Highway in unincorporated Gretna, according to deputies. He attempted to withdraw money from an ATM at the location, but the transaction was declined.
Around 10 a.m., the suspect attempted to purchase merchandise from a convenience store in the 7900 block of Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East, the PPSO said. He was denied.
Surveillance video shows that that suspect is black and in his 20s. He was wearing a red t-shirt, dark pants, red shoes and sunglasses. He was observed driving an older model white Ford Expedition. A witness said the vehicle bore a temporary license plate, deputies said.
The suspect is believed to have acted alone, the PPSO said.
