NEW ORLEANS - Police are searching for a man they say robbed a Mid-City convenience store and beat the owner in the head with a gun early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred in the 3000 block of Bienville Street around 9:15 a.m.

According to police, the suspect walked into the store, displayed a gun and jumped across the counter, demanding money.

Police said the owner initially refused and the suspect hit him in the head several times with a gun before making off with about $500 in cash.

The incident was captured on the store’s video surveillance camera. The victim was treated and released from the hospital with moderate injuries.

The perpetrator is described as an African American male, thin build, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds. The suspect had a distinct tattoo under his right eye illustrating a possible tic-tac-toe (#) sign or hash tag. The suspect is possibly in his early 20’s.

Detectives are currently trying to piece together if this robbery is possibly related to a Thursday December 27, 2012, robbery in the 3300 block of Bienville Street, where that suspect made off with $500-$600 in cash.
