NEW ORLEANS -- An Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested for allegedly bringing contraband into the Orleans Parish Prison, according to a spokesman for the office.
Deputy Bryson Baptiste, 24, was booked with four counts of malfeasance in office and four counts of introduction of contraband into a jail. Baptiste has worked for the sheriff's office since July 2012.
The sheriff's office did not specify what type of contraband Baptiste was allegedly bringing into the jail.
The deputy's arrest is part of an ongoing investigation, according to the sheriff's office, and more arrests may be forthcoming. Baptiste has been suspended without pay, according to the sheriff's office.
“The Sheriff’s Office does not tolerate contraband in our facilities, no matter how it may have been introduced,” Sheriff Marlin Gusman said in a statement.
