NEW ORLEANS - Police arrested a 15-year-old juvenile on simple burglary charges Friday afternoon and sources tell Eyewitness Investigators that the suspect is Marshall Coulter, the teen who was shot by a Marigny homeowner last summer while in the homeowner's backyard.
Friday's incident occurred in the 2000 block of Royal Street around 3:45 p.m.
A couple of NOPD spokesmen would not comment the identity of the juvenile arrested, but sources said it was Coulter.
Marigny homeowner Merritt Landry shot Coulter after the teen had gotten into his backyard late at night last July. Coulter was unarmed but Landry said that he felt threatened and had a family inside the home at the late hour.
Landry was arrested by police but recently a grand jury failed to take action on an indictment in the case, which the district attorney's office said at the time was still open.
The shooting sparked a debate in the community between those who thought Landry used excessive force and those who felt he was within his right to defend his home.
