NEW ORLEANS – Information from a drug buy-bust in Central City lead to the arrest of a murder suspect, according to a statement from the New Orleans Police Department.

Burnell Allen, 32, was arrested by police Wednesday in the 1200 block of Simon Bolivar Avenue. Allen was arrested in the same Central City neighborhood where Lonnie Johnson, 21, was gunned down on June 9, according to police.

“Detectives got the information about the suspect yesterday when conducting interviews of people detained in a drug buy-bust,” said a statement from Remi Braden, a NOPD spokeswoman.

According to detectives, Allen is believed to have fatally shot Johnson in the 1300 block of Simon Bolivar. He was booked on a second-degree murder charge, according to police.
