NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans police have arrested a suspect in a Monday double shooting that left a local college student dead and her boyfriend wounded.
Police booked Jeffery Washington, 21, with the second-degree murder of Marguerite Washington, 18, and the attempted second-degree murder of a 19-year-old man.
The incident happened Monday morning in the 7700 block of Branch Drive. Jeffery Washington allegedly fired a gun through the bedroom window where Marguerite Washington and her boyfriend were inside.
Serpas said Marguerite Washington had just graduated high school and was enrolled as a freshman at Dillard University.
“This was a senseless crime that robbed a young person of a promising future”, said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.
