Terry Speaks, a suspect in the killing and dismemberment of Bourbon St. dancer Jaren Lockhart, has pleaded guilty to unrelated federal charges in North Carolina.

Court documents show Speaks pleaded guilty on Aug. 16 to failing to register as a sex offender.  He was extradited to North Carolina in June, after authorities in Tangipahoa Parish arrested him.

Also arrested was Margaret Sanchez, who was also named as a suspect in Lockhart’s death but has not been charged in connection with the case.  Sanchez was released from jail in Tangipahoa Parish in August after charges of harboring a sex offender were dropped.

Speaks, 39, has multiple convictions in North Carolina, including for having sex with a 14-year-old, assaulting a woman and domestic violence. A federal grand jury charged him with failing to register as a sex offender after his 2003 conviction on the sex charge.

Both Speaks and Sanchez were named as suspects in the Lockhart case in June, after surveillance video captured them with Lockhart, leaving Temptations, the strip club where she worked.

Parts of her body began washing up on Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches a few days later.  No arrests have been made in connection with her death.
