NEW ORLEANS –  A suspect wanted in connection in the death of a Gretna Police detective Brett Thomas is in custody, according to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Joshua Miner, 20, was booked on second-degree murder charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

He turned himself in to police at Central Lock Up around 1 p.m., according to Superintendent Ronal Serpas.

Thomas was killed after being punched in the face on Bourbon Street.

New Orleans identified Miner as the man they suspected of throwing the fatal punch. They identified him with the help of a Facebook page called "Justice for Brett Thomas."
