HAMMOND, La. – Deputies arrested a teenager in relation to the shooting of one man and the death of another in Hammond on Monday, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Around 5:36 p.m., deputies responded to call of gun shots in the street and vehicles speeding away on Durbin Road Extension.
When TPSO arrived on scene, they discovered Jarvis Mabry, 23, in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was conscious and alert and transported to the hospital, where he was in stable condition on Thursday, according to the sheriff's office.
Then, deputies discovered Larry Smith, 20, in the yard of 46355 Durbin Road Extension with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was unresponsive as bystanders performed CPR, deputies said.
Two deputies took over the resuscitation process but were unable to bring him back to life. The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office issued a warrant for Brandon M. Francois, 18, for the attempted second degree murder of Mabry and the second degree murder of Smith.
With the assistance of United States Marshals and the Huntsville Police Department in Alabama, Francois was in custody by Thursday morning.
