NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police released video Saturday of a violent and disturbing armed robbery, and they’re asking the public’s help in finding the suspect.

Police say a surveillance camera caught 26-year old Anthony Fields robbing and pistol whipping a store owner in the 3000 block of Bienville Street.

The robbery happened just after 9 a.m. Monday.

NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said Fields has been in and out of jail for a long list of prior violent offenses.

“Our detectives did a tremendous job identifying Anthony Fields, but the sad, sick reality is the reason it was easy for us to identify him is that he has been in and out of the criminal justice system,” Serpas said. “It is disgusting to looking at this criminal record.”

Serpas said Fields has multiple charges for dangerous and violent crimes and was on probation until 2014 for simple burglary

“This man has no right to continue to get a break from the criminal justice system that gives no breaks to our victims,” Serpas said. “This victim was brutally attacked and worked with us very closely to get Fields identified.”

If you can help police find Fields, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
