NEW ORLEANS - At around 10:30 Tuesday night, one woman endured frantic, terrifying moments, when she was attacked and carjacked in a driveway along a busy stretch of Claiborne Avenue in the Uptown area.
"We were struggling and he punched me in the face and pushed me to the ground," said the victim, who we’re identifying only by her first name, Meg.
As the attacker drove away in her SUV, Meg continued her fight - not for the vehicle, but to save her dog Skeeter, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
"I ran back up and was pounding on the windows, "Give me the dog. Give me the dog," Meg said. “I mean, I saw his face and, poor Skeeter, he's really a skittish dog, so, he's gonna be really scared."
Skeeter is an 11-year-old Chihuahua / Jack Russell mix, a rescue dog that Meg adopted after Hurricane Rita.
Finding Skeeter is now her primary focus, and in the hours after the attack, she took to social media sites to post photos of her beloved dog.
While the search continues for her SUV and Skeeter, Meg is pleading for her attacker to return him.
"If you have Skeeter, just drop him off. I don't care about the car or anything else. I just want Skeeter back. I wanna make sure he's okay," she said.
New Orleans police are still searching for the stolen vehicle. It’s a tan 2000 Lincoln Navigator with LA license plate: TFX 907.
NOPD officials have not identified a suspect in this case.
