NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Police are investigating two French Quarter rapes with very similar details.
Police say both victims were attacked in the same stretch of Decatur Street.
"Detectives will investigate to determine if the two cases are related," said NOPD spokesman Gary Flot.
The most recent sexual assault happened Thursday night, shortly after nine. According to police, a 21-year old woman reported that she was at a bar near the corner of Bourbon and Conti, when an unknown man bought her a drink. Police say the woman said she was ready to leave and the stranger offered to walk with her. She told police, once they entered the 300 block of Decatur, the man raped her, stole her money and cell phone and ran away.
The attack comes just eight days after a similar assault in the Quarter. In that case, a woman told police she got separated from her husband on Bourbon Street. She used a stranger's phone to try and contact her husband.
Police say another man approached her and said he knew where her husband was and offered to take her there. Instead, the man reportedly grabbed and assaulted her near Decatur and St. Louis. He grabbed her purse and ran off. Police have not released a description of the attacker in either case.
