WESTWEGO, La -- Authorities made an arrest in an armed robbery Tuesday moments after the victim's father disarmed two suspects by pretending he had a gun, according to deputies.
Donquell Henry, 18, robbed a 12-year-old boy at gunpoint at a park in the 800 block of Drake Avenue in Westwego, Sheriff Newell Normand said. He took the boy's watch.
The victim then located his sister, who confronted Henry in the park. When Henry flashed his handgun to keep the two at bay, they then informed their father, who later confronted Henry and a second suspect holding a handgun.
The father tricked both suspects into thinking he had a gun by putting his hand behind his back and convincing the suspects to lie down on the ground, Normand said.
The victim took his watch from Henry as the father called 911, authorities said. While the father began securing the handguns, a bystander approached the father and began to fight with him. Normand said the bystander was upset with how the father treated the teens.
Westwego police arrived to address the fight, and the teens started to run away. Authorities said Henry was caught and admitted to carrying the gun, but denied threatening anyone with it.
Authorities seized a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol and a .38 caliber revolver. The second suspect escaped.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the second suspect is asked to call the JPSO Robbery Section at 504-364-5376 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
