NEW ORLEANS - A death row inmate who was convicted of helping a former New Orleans police officer rob and kill three people 18 years ago is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Rogers Lacaze plans to request a new trial and wants to overturn his first degree murder conviction.
The incident involved the killing of a police officer and two others at a New Orleans restaurant.
Lacaze and Antoinette Frank, a rookie New Orleans Police Department officer at the time, were both found guilty.
Lacaze's attorneys said his trial lawyer, who has since passed away, inadequately represented him.
Attorneys also said that the state hid the fact that one of the suspects was Frank's brother, who they believe was involved in the case.
Lazcaze's attorneys said another reason behind the new trial request is the fact that prosecutors did not reveal a statement from a key witness early enough.
