Man dead after shooting near Algiers fire station

NEW ORLEANS -- Police are investigating a shooting Saturday night that left one man dead in Algiers.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Flanders Street.

According to an initial report from the New Orleans Police Department, firefighters at Engine 33 called police when they heard gunshots outside of their fire station.

When firefighters came outside, they saw a man face down in the on the ground. Police said the 29-year-old victim was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

A suspect or motive has not been named.
