Man dead, suspect in custody after shooting in Livingston Parish

HOLDEN, La. -- Deputies are investigating a Sunday morning shooting that left one man dead in Livingston Parish.

The shooting happened just after 10 a.m. on Lakeview Drive in Holden. 

Sheriff Jason Ard said one man was shot in the upper torso and died at an area hospital. According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, the victim has been identified as 39-year-old Randy Favaron. 

The suspect in custody has been identified as 39-year-old James Smith, III. He has been arrested for second degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. 

"We do know the two males were involved in a verbal argument before the shot was fired," Ard said in a press release.
