Man found dead in Bourbon Street home was beaten, stabbed

NEW ORLEANS – The man whose body was found inside a Bourbon Street home Tuesday morning died from multiple stab wounds and blunt head injuries, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office said.

The coroner identified the victim as 61-year-old Cleveland Guillot.

Police allege Luis Conde killed Guillot. They have not yet identified a motive.

Conde was hospitalized after he was taken into custody.

He will be booked on a count of second-degree murder once he is released from the hospital, police have said.

Several people who watched as police began their investigation Tuesday morning said the Conde and Guillot lived together in the home in the 800 block of Bourbon Street and were dating.

Guillot owned the home in which he was killed, those who knew him said.

Police responded to the home about 9 a.m. as part of a so-called wellness check, often done at the request of a person who cannot get in touch with someone.

Officers soon blocked off the street after Conde refused to answer knocks at the door. SWAT officers later burst into the home and took Conde into custody before he was hospitalized.
