NEW ORLEANS -- Firefighters found the burned body of a man Monday night inside a fire in an abandoned house in the Lower Ninth Ward.

The fire happened around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Claiborne Avenue and Deslonde Street.

NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot said firefighters recovered the body after putting out the fire at the abandoned home.

The NOFD determined the cause of the fire was arson and notified the New Orleans Police Department.

The coroner's office will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of death.

The man's identity hasn't been released.
