N.O. man had hundreds of child porn images, police say

NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Attorney's General Cyber Crime Unit announced the arrests of two people on charges of possession of child pornography.

According to AG Jeff Landry’s Office, 36-year-old Jonathan Michael Ruiz of New Orleans was booked with 550 counts of possession of sexual abuse images/videos of children under the age of 13. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison.

Investigators say Ruiz is currently on probation for similar crimes and Probation and Parole has placed a hold on him. The AG’s office says that Ruiz, if convicted, faces the possibility of being fined up to $75,000 and imprisonment with hard labor for more than 40 years without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.

The AG’s Cyber Crime Unit also announced the arrest of a second person on the same charges in a separate case.

Randolph Ard, 62, of Kentwood was booked on 10 counts of possession of sexual abuse images/video of children under the age of 13. He was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.

Ard is a registered sex offender who has previously been convicted of indecent behavior with juveniles and pornography involving juveniles, Landry’s Office said.

“These horrendous Internet crimes against children continuously inflict damage,” Landy said. “Every time one of these videos or images is viewed, the child is re-victimized.”
