NEW ORLEANS -- A bullet struck a 9th Ward school Monday afternoon, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
While police were investigating a shooting near the intersection of North Galvez and Desire streets, police discovered that a bullet had struck a window of Akili Academy at 3811 N. Galvez St, police said, a few blocks away from the initial scene.
The bullet hit the window and got stuck in the glass, police said, but didn't go through the window. There were six students in the classroom at the time, but no students were injured.
School officials confirmed the incident, saying that it happened around 1 p.m. The school called police and briefly followed lockdown procedures. At 2 p.m., classes resumed. Parents were notified. Additional mental health professionals will be at the school on Tuesday.
Police still have not located a victim, who was originally reported to be a male.
