Man armed with knife enters CBD hotel rooms, injures police officer

NEW ORLEANS – A man is in jail Thursday after police said he went into a Downtown hotel armed with a knife and injured a police officer. 

Around 9:45 p.m. Thursday, a man with a knife was opening doors and entering guests' rooms at the Omni Royal Crescent Hotel in the 500 block of Gravier Street, according to New Orleans Police Department.

When an officer tried to apprehend the armed man, a struggle ensued and the officer was injured in the leg, NOPD says. 

Additional officers arrived and the man was apprehended. Police say the man will be booked with aggravated burglary, battery to a police officer and criminal damage to property.

This incident is still under investigation.
