NOPD: Suspect identified for shooting a man knocking at the door

NEW ORLEANS – Police are searching for a man they believe opened fire on someone as he knocked on the door of a home in St. Roch.

According to NOPD, 24-year-old Darrien Johnson opened fire on a man who knocked on the backdoor of a house Johnson was inside.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. on Aug. 23 in the 2400 block of N. Claiborne Avenue. According to police, the victim knocked on the back door to see a friend and his grandchild when Johnson opened fire from inside, striking the victim in the stomach.

Police believe there was a second shooter outside the residence as well.

Police said Johnson should be considered armed and dangerous. Once caught, police said he'll be booked with aggravated battery by shooting, felony possession of a firearm and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Anyone with information on Johnson's location or the identity of the second shooter is asked to call NOPD's Fifth District detectives at 504-658-6050 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
