Two students robbed at gunpoint in St. Augustine High School parking lot

Two students were robbed in a student parking lot at St. Aug.

NEW ORLEANS – St. Augustine High School is stepping up security after two students were robbed while sitting in their cars on campus before school.

According to a release from the school, the robbery happened about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A preliminary report from police said a student was sitting in a car when two men armed with a gun opened the car door and demanded money.

Another student was also sitting in his car when the armed men approached him. Police said the men took cash from the student’s wallet before giving it back to him and running away.

A school spokesperson said the students informed school officials of the robbery immediately after it happened and police were called.

“The administrative team takes this situation very seriously and additional precautions, such as added security officers, are in place to ensure the continued safety of our students and staff,” said Melissa Duplantier, director of communications and marketing at the school. “We will also continue to work with the police department as their investigation continues. Further, we have noticed that the New Orleans Police Department increased patrols in our area.”
