A suspect is in custody after NOPD deployed a SWAT unit in Algiers Saturday afternoon.

According to NOPD, officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Odeon Street after around 3 p.m. Police said a woman's ex-boyfriend came to her house and broke several windows before leaving and threatening to come back with a gun. He then returned with a gun and told the woman that he'd shoot any police officers that arrived if she called for help according to NOPD.

When officers arrived on the scene they heard gunshots coming from the house. NOPD then deployed a SWAT unit to the area and set up a perimeter.

The suspect was then spotted fleeing the area and chased into the canal running along General Degaulle. Eye witnesses say police surrounded the man and were able to arrest him.
