David Cassidy opens up about battle with dementia

In the 1970s, his picture adorned the walls of a zillion girls' bedrooms, a world-famous teen idol with feathered locks and a pretty face, the star of the popular musical-sitcom The Partridge Family.

But he was haunted by a dreadful family secret and on Feb. 21 he told the world about it: He's battling early-onset dementia, a memory-destroying brain disorder that felled his grandfather and his mother.

"I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming," he told People.

Some of his fans sensed something was wrong: Just before his revelation, TMZ posted an audience video that showed Cassidy slurring his words and forgetting lyrics in a performance near Los Angeles on Feb. 18. Cassidy said he's decided to stop touring by the end of 2017 to focus on his health and to enjoy his life.
