ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) — For his Michigan finale, Mitt Romney wanted Kid Rock.
After all, the GOP presidential candidate begins and ends almost every event with Kid Rock's song "Born Free."
So Romney's people reached out to Kid Rock's people. The answer came back: The rocker-rapper would consider playing "Born Free" at Romney's last campaign rally before Tuesday's primary. But only if he could talk to Romney first.
Aides say Romney got a policy grilling last Thursday at the rocker's home outside of Detroit. The next day, Romney received an email: Kid Rock was in.
Kid Rock performed "Born Free" Monday night at the Royal Oak Music Theatre as Romney watched. Then the singer left the stage, one and done.
Romney tells Detroit radio station WXYT that Kid Rock "makes some pretty good music."
