NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards returns to the spotlight with the premier of "The Governor's Wife," a reality television series that puts his romance with wife Trina Scott Grimes out there for all to see.

The series follows the decision of 86-year-old Edwin and 35-year-old Trina to get pregnant and ends with son Eli's birth.

Trina Edwards said the series shows how their unconventional blended family interacts. The cast also includes Edwards' two grown daughters. Trina's two teenage sons from a previous marriage participate, too.

Edwards served four terms as governor in the 1970s, '80s and '90s. He married Trina in 2011, shortly after his release from federal prison. He served more than eight years for his role in a bribery and extortion scheme.

The show debuts on A&E at 9 p.m. CDT Sunday.
