BATON ROUGE, La. - The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals announced the closure of oyster harvesting Area 23 on Wednesday.
The closure covers an area west of the Mississippi River in Terrebonne Parish.
State officials said new reports of oil, strong easterly winds and higher than normal tides prompted the closure. It takes effect sunset Wednesday.
Areas 1 through 6, 8, and 11 through 15 remain closed. Areas 9, 10, 17, 19 and 21 remain partially closed. All other areas are open.
