AMSTERDAM -- Greenpeace has criticized BP PLC's internal report on the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster as "a sorry attempt to spread the blame," and says the only way to avoid future catastrophic oil spills is to ban deepwater drilling.
The Amsterdam-based global environmental group says BP's report "reveals a devastating litany of human error, incompetence and technical failure."
Greenpeace says such failures on deepwater oil rigs are inevitable, and the real solution is to move the world beyond oil to clean energy.
The BP report released Wednesday accepts some blame for the April 20 explosion, but says the fatal blowout was the result of a complex set of mechanical, engineering and human failures for which its partner companies shared responsibility.
