NEW ORLEANS - A federal magistrate has ruled that Transocean's CEO does not have to testify at trials stemming from the massive gulf oil spill in 2010.

BP leased the Transocean rig that caught fire and sank after the deadly blowout of BP's well.

BP has argued that CEO Steve Newman should testify at the trial scheduled to start later this month in New Orleans.

But, attorneys for the companies that have been sued over the Deepwater Horizon disaster have already questioned Newman and the judge agreed

The explosion and fire killed 11 workers and led to the nation's worst offshore oil spill.
