Don't shy away from lifting weights

- It's one of the most important things you can do for your health: lifting weights.

It's not to bulk up, but just to save the muscle you already have. That's because by your 40s, your muscle mass is already declining. Then by the age of 60, the decreases in muscle are dramatic.

And now a new study finds that a diet high in antioxidants might be an important part in saving muscle function in seniors, so they don't become frail and disabled. Specifically, doctors find a significant positive link between getting vitamins C and E in your foods and muscle strength. Doctors say do not take high doses of these supplements just eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Protein has also been determined to be very important for maintaining muscle.

- This comes as no surprise to college students, but a new study in the Journal of American College Health finds that co-ed dorms are linked to more alcohol drinking and sex.

Students in co-ed dorms were 2.5 times more likely to admit to weekly binge drinking and to say they had three or more sex partners in the last year. Here in the U.S., 90 percent of the university dorms and other housing are co-ed.

- And finally, do you really know how much time your young child is spending in front of the TV?

A new survey in Pediatrics (The official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics) finds that children in home-based day care programs are watching nearly two and a half hours of television a day. Those in daycare centers only average about 30 minutes a day.

Pediatricians say watching television can have a negative impact on language development, attention span, and cognitive development. It can also contribute to obesity.
