NEW ORLEANS - What if the foods that help other people lose weight, actually caused you to gain weight?
A nutrition expert says that is what she sees in some of her clients.
And she has a plan that she says can change that.
They are the healthful foods, the ones we are told to eat - oatmeal, salmon, Greek yogurt, turkey, eggs, cauliflower, beans and tomatoes, just to name a few. But a New York City holistic health practitioner believes to some people they are not.
"My clients were having weight gain and not only were they having weight gain, but their health issues were cropping up," said Lyn-Genet Recitas, who wrote the book 'The Plan.'
We all have different body chemistry, and for some people, certain healthful foods can cause a toxic reaction that can cause things like weight gain, cholesterol rise, premature aging, inflammation, constipation, migraines, joint pain, depression, and eczema.
"When you're having one to two-pound weight gain from healthy foods, that means that your immune system is being attacked as well because 70 percent of your immune system is actually in your digestive tract," Recitas explained.
In her book "The Plan," she explains how to find hidden trigger foods that can sabotage your weight, and how to find the foods that will help you lose a half pound a day and feel better while avoiding bloat and fatigue.
"We're actually targeting the foods that did work for us in our 20s and 30s and aren't working for us in our 40s and 50s. Why is that? Digestive enzymes start to decrease, stomach acid starts to decrease, even saliva starts to decrease, intestines start to become more permeable, so what we need to do is we need to strengthen our digestion," said Recitas.
The plan begins with a three-day kick start that could help you lose five pounds.
Then the 20-day program is designed to help you build your healthful food list for rapid weight loss.
