I-10 West reopens on Spillway 10 hours after crash

Westbound I-10 has been closed on the Bonnet Carre Spillway, near MM 217, since 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

I-10 West at milepost 217 on the Bonnet Carre Spillway reopened nearly 10 hours  after a multi-vehicle accident Wednesday night. 

The highway reopened around 9:30 a.m.

The accident occurred near MM 217, between Exit 220: I-310 and Exit 210: I-55, about two miles east of the Laplace area. Hazardous tanker trucks were involved in the accident, but initial reports say there was no leakage.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, and according to Total Traffic, several vehicles traveling behind the accident were still stuck on the Spillway as of 5 a.m. Thursday. 

Shortly before 5:30 a.m., officials began to allow cars caught behind the accident to pass.
