TERREBONNE PARISH, La. – A Bayou Blue man was arrested and charged with assisting the suicide of his wife, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Charles Fanguy, 69, was arrested Wednesday and charged with assisting his wife’s suicide. Fanguy’s wife died on May 17, according to the sheriff’s office.
Medical personnel went to the Fanguy’s home on Bayou Blue Road on May 17. According to the sheriff’s office, Betty Fanguy was reportedly found unresponsive on the kitchen floor. Attempts to revive Betty were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead on the scene.
“Information obtained by detectives revealed that Betty had several medical issues and had shown suicidal tendencies. Evidence found at the scene showed that Betty had consumed alcoholic beverages and prescription pills. Those factors reportedly contributed to her death,” said a statement from the sheriff’s office.
In June, detectives received information that Charles Fanguy had confessed to helping Betty end her life. Fanguy told acquaintances that he gave “her prescription pills and a non-alcoholic beverage to help her swallow the pills after finding her injured from a fall inside their residence,” said the statement from the sheriff’s office.
Charles Fanguy was taken to the Terrebonne jail and his bond was set at $200,000, according to the sheriff’s office.
